Brainspotting: A New Approach to Therapy in Calvert County, Maryland

By Molly Stackhouse

Brainspotting is a relatively new therapy that combines elements of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and somatic experiencing. It is a powerful tool for healing from trauma and other emotional challenges.

Brainspotting is based on the idea that our brains have a natural ability to process and release traumatic memories. When we are exposed to a traumatic event, our brains go into a state of hyperarousal. This can lead to a number of symptoms, including anxiety, depression, and physical pain.

Brainspotting helps to calm the nervous system and to access the stored traumatic memories. This allows the brain to process the memories in a healthy way and to release them.

Brainspotting is a very effective therapy for a variety of issues, including:

Trauma: Brainspotting can be very effective for healing from trauma. It can help to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Pain: Brainspotting can also be effective for treating pain. It can help to reduce the severity of pain and to improve quality of life.

Addiction: Brainspotting can be helpful for people who are struggling with addiction. It can help to reduce cravings and to promote recovery.

Performance anxiety: Brainspotting can be helpful for people who are struggling with performance anxiety. It can help to reduce anxiety and to improve performance.

Brainspotting is a safe and effective therapy. It is typically done in a one-on-one setting with a therapist who is trained in brainspotting. The therapist will help you to identify the traumatic memories that you want to work on. They will then guide you through a process of focusing on those memories while stimulating your brain with a specific eye position.

Brainspotting can be a very powerful experience. It is important to be prepared for the possibility of experiencing some emotional discomfort during the session. However, the benefits of brainspotting can be profound.
